Redefining Flexibility

Flexibility… What does it really mean? And why would you want it?

Almost everyone will talk about being able to be flexible for their clients. Or that they are bringing a new innovative approach to their business. But what does that mean in the context of the building and construction industry? Architecture and engineering both carry the heavy weight of history. We are bound by legislation, created by past experiences and the errors of others. We are naturally risk adverse because of the liability that inherently comes with our work. And the adage, “the way we’ve always done it…” is safe and comforting in a world of continual change and new pressures.

Who & How: Recent years have led to some new ways we can approach professional design services within our industry. The advent of design-build, for example, now is a format that puts contractors in the driver seat with their customers. And while the more traditional bid-spec approach is alive and well, we’ve discovered that our customers sometimes appreciate the ability to explore different design delivery methods. And why wouldn’t we listen to them? Our contractor partners are the ones who are building strong relationships and helping their customers deal with real world day-to-day issues.

What: While there may be some slight changes to what it is that we provide, in the larger sense we continue to provide high quality engineering that is Code compliant, Constructable, and Clearly communicated. Intune Engineering’s approach to design and drawing delivery focuses on these three key aspects as we believe they are one of the best ways we can serve our clients. Clarity is a gift in the midst of complexity, and we strive to help bring that clarity through whatever method is best suited to the situation.

Why: For those of us who enjoy the construction process, the why is easy. It’s a joy to see something conceived through collaboration turn into reality. But there can be something more here as well. The relationships built through the construction process are valuable as well. And while engineering and design is great, it’s the people that we serve that bring our purpose.

So, flexibility…In an industry that is dripping with tradition and regulation, we believe our breath of fresh air comes from the individuals that we work with.
